Inductees Join Roster of Trailblazers and Innovators with Long Island Links
Holbrook, NY - March 3rd, 2010 - The 2010 Long Island Technology Hall of Fame (www.techisland.org) will induct five innovators, three outstanding patents for 2009, and nine student scholars at the ninth annual induction ceremony taking place March 10 at the Garden City Hotel. “The Technology Hall of Fame honors Long Island’s visionaries and trailblazers who are passionate about supporting Long Island’s economic and intellectual leadership through technology,” stated Bob Venero, CEO of Future Tech, an IT solution provider known for its astounding sales growth rate of 153%, as well as iFortress, the East coast’s first structurally secure data center. In addition to numerous industry awards and technological achievements, the company is recognized for supporting the overall growth of the technology sector on Long Island.
This year’s impressive inductee slate includes: Leo Guthart, Topspin Partners; Boris Metlitsky, Motorola, Nicholas Samios, Brookhaven National Laboratory; and Nikola Tesla, inventor (posthumously). The inductee for the Entrepreneur Award is ReiJane Huai, founder of FalconStor Software. As in the past, the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame honors technology innovators with links to Long Island. It also raises funds for scholarships, outreach, and research initiatives that will ensure Long Island’s economic and intellectual leadership continues. The LITHF helps to support scholarships for undergraduates in the engineering and technology fields.
Student Inductees
This year also marks the induction of nine Intel Science Finalists from Long Island. There were 11 finalists statewide, and 40 across the United States. They include: Levent Alpoge, Half Hollow Hills High School West; Eric Brooks, George W. Hewlett High School; Yuval Calev, Ward Melville High School; Michael Comuniello, Division Avenue High School, Levittown; Ruoyi Jiang, Ward Melville High School, who is also a Seimens Award Winner; Paul Masih Das, Lawrence High School; Joshua Pfeffer, North Shore Hebrew Academy, Great Neck; Kevin Xu, Roslyn High School; and Lori Ying, South Side High School, Rockville Centre.
Patent Award Winners
The Long Island Technology Hall of Fame also honors patent winners who are helping to change the technology landscape around the globe. This year’s categories and inductees include: Environment & Energy: John Heiser, Bayport, Mark Fuhrmann, Silver Spring, MD, and Paul Kalb, Wading River; Health & the Individual: Charles A. Green, Holbrook, Arto Cinoglu, Rockville Centre, and William H. Wahl, Smithtown; Innovation in Industry: J. Paul Farrell, East Setauket and Vadim Dudnikov, Alexandria, VA.
